Vanguard Up-Rise 48 Review – English Version

Posted on 09 October 2009 by admin

Hi guys,

To those who might been wondering why I’m writing the same review but in English, this is because i been viewing the blog stat and seems that quite a number of visitor been googling around for this bag… Perhaps lack of resource on this item in the net hence making the search engine directed it here.:D  *Sorry for the bad English… I try to make it as simple as possible. :D and no.. no… I’m not working with Vanguard… :P     The product have been updated at Vanguard Website… So a detail explanation is available over there too…

So, what actually really attract me to this bag?

1) The build in rain cover that works great and detachable…

2) The material used is at the same par as lowepro… and its look better no?

3) The bottom part of it were made using some waterproof material. So you don’t have to worry to leave it on a wet surface.

4) Inner part is in orange color… Improve visibilities of what ever inside and give it a fresh look…

5) You can attach your tripod to it and it have a dedicated holder that  use to provide support to your tripod leg. So your tripod wont be hanging and swinging all over…

6) Up to 15″ Laptop compartment…

7) Side access…

Another this is the price… A lowepro that have all this feature would have the price tag of around Rm500 – Rm600… But this is one… cost me half that… :D Where i bought it? HERE…

Some disadvantages that i think i should share is, it dont have any small pocket for CF, batteries or any small item… Maybe you can get another small CF pouch or some other alternative…  I really hope this english review helps…

Thank You and have a good day… ;)

Just bought one – and this reviewer is right in every respect, including the absence of pockets for small stuff. It’s an excellent piece of kit.

I’m trying to find out what are measurements for laptop – mine is 15.4” no idea if it will fit can You post them here?or send by mail? Laptop’s sizes are(in mm): 365x270x40 (if that fits I think I will fit other laptop as well if I want to change it someday) btw. my pentax with 300mm lenses takes around 20cm will that fit comfortably as well?

(no confirmation on comment made so I’m reposting maybe CAPTCHA was wrong)

  8. admin Says:

    Hi seb,

it will fit… my laptop is slightly bigger than yours, fits nicely without any problem… Did you mean post the bag to you?. Putting in a 300mm i dont think its a good idea… you might able to fit the lens, but probably without hood…

  9. Seb Says:

    Hey,

I meant the measurements, if laptop fits its all good. Last thing is that I mostly use body with tele attached (sigma 70-300) and (body+tele on 70mm) has 20cm, if that fits into th bag and it should from what I saw I’m buying one of those since its all I dreamt for :) . Similar Lowepro bag costs 3 times as vanguard and is not that good even. If You could confirm that there are at least 20 cm for body with lens attached I would be veeery happy.

    Cheers,
    Seb.

    good day,

Let me give you the idea on what i put in the beg. A canon 20D body with battery grip and most of the time i have it attached with a 70-200 2.8 . And the is still lots of space for my 1635L and few more lenses… I even once, put in 2 body with 70-200 2.8 attached into it…

Hope it give you the idea how big is the space in there… You can always play around with the padding to fit your stuff in… :)

    Cheers… :)

  11. Sebastian Pieczyński Says:

Hm.. I have an idea of how big it is and I dont mean to be pushy but can You say yes/no if 20cm body with lenses will fit in the bag? That’s all I’m asking.. I’d love to order the bag but only when I’m 100% sure.

  12. admin Says:

    Yes, 100% sure it’ll fit a 20cm body with lens… :)

  13. Seb Says:

Just what I was hoping for.. well I managed to confirm that earlier but thanks.. I’m still waiting for it though. Was few hours late and someone just bought last one. But now I know its worth the wait. Thanks a lot. Btw for others looking for info I go unofficial news that laptop bag is around 30×40 cm thats just about good for 17” as well as every possible 15.4” or 15/6”.

    Cheers,
    Seb.

  17. Dennis Says:

    Hi

Just wondering about the waist belt with this bag. It looks from the pictures like a simple strap. I would hope it has some padding so one can take the weight on the hips, not shoulders. Could you comment on the waist strap please?

    Thanks very much

    Dennis

  18. admin Says:

    Hi Dennis,

The waist belt IS just a simple belt without any padding on it… But, dont worry, the padding at back near the waist is well padded and i find it quit good to transfer the weight.
    :)

    yay !

  20. JJT Says:

    Hi,

Thanks for the review. I havent seen many user reviews on this bag and yours has been extremely helpful. I use a Sigma 150-500mm lens with my Nikon. Do you think I can access the body and attached 150-500mm through the side access? Or would you recommend another bag? Thanks!

  21. admin Says:

    glad it helps you… :)

  22. Bishop Says:

Is the bag bulky? Thinking of getting it for my trip to China. Is it too bulky to wear it at the front? Some place not safe to wear it at the back. The size listed is quite big. Is it that bulky?

    Thanks.

Anyone else got this bag? care to review?

  23. admin Says:

    hi chan,

this is definitely did not suit u… it is bulky… you might want to consider a smaller version of it… the Uprise 45… :)

  31. baja Says:

hi, i too have a similar question to JJT.

I use the Canon 7D with battery grip AND the Sigma 50-500mm tele-zoom lens.
All up, this is 30cm in length from lens tip to back of camera.

Will this fit inside the width of the bag?
(I look at the bag dimensions on Vanguard’s website, but they seem confusing)

Any help appreciated before I buy this bag. Thanks.

  32. admin Says:

    Baja,

As i have wrote for JJT, i put in a 7D with a 70-200 2.8 IS V1. no problem at all… but not sure about the sigma tho…
